Temple of Janus, Roman temple in Autun, France.
The Temple of Janus features two preserved walls of its square cella reaching 24 meters high, with foundations of an ambulatory and side structures still visible.
Archaeological excavations between 2013 and 2018 revealed the temple's origins date to the third century BC, during the Gallic period of the region.
Recent discoveries indicate the temple was dedicated to the indigenous deity Ienieco, contrary to previous assumptions about its connection to the Roman god Janus.
The monument stands at Rue du Faubourg Saint-Andoche, offering unrestricted access throughout the year with available parking facilities near the site.
The temple complex included over one hundred pottery kilns and workshops producing ceramic items, some of which were exported across ancient Gaul.
