Dolmen de Pierre Folle, Archaeological site and dolmen in Montguyon, France.
The Dolmen de Pierre Folle is a stone burial chamber with a covered passageway running through its center. The passage is held up by nine stone pillars that decrease in height toward the end, topped with capstones.
The structure was built around 3500 BCE during the Middle Neolithic period. It was later studied by archaeologists during the 1840s and 1870s.
This was a burial place for several people, as skeletal remains discovered in the 1800s revealed. Families used this site over time to lay their dead to rest.
The site is freely open year-round and has private parking available for visitors. You can explore the structure on your own without worrying about opening hours.
The largest stone of the structure weighs around 30 tons and forms part of the roof system. This massive stone was moved into place without any modern machinery.
