Crespin Abbey, Benedictine monastery in Crespin, France
The remaining structures of Crespin Abbey include the former abbot's residence and several stone buildings from different construction periods through centuries.
Founded around 648 by Landelin of Crespin, the abbey experienced multiple reconstructions after Viking raids destroyed the original buildings in the 9th century.
The monastery maintained records of religious manuscripts and agricultural practices that influenced the development of farming techniques in northern France.
Visitors can access the abbey ruins from rue du Moulin, where informational panels detail the layout of the former monastic complex.
A natural spring, which according to records emerged when Saint Landelin struck the ground with his staff, determined the location of the abbey.
