Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Faise, Cistercian abbey in Les Artigues-de-Lussac, France.

Abbaye Notre-Dame de la Faise is a Cistercian abbey in Les Artigues-de-Lussac, located south of Libourne in the Bordeaux wine region. The site contains preserved monastic buildings from the Middle Ages that document the heritage of this religious community.

The monastery was founded in 1137 by monks from Cadouin Abbey and became an important stop for pilgrims traveling toward Santiago de Compostela. The community played a role in the medieval network of pilgrimage sites along this famous route.

The abbey's name refers to the Virgin Mary, and its carved stonework shows the craftsmanship of medieval monks who lived here. The remaining buildings convey how the monastic community organized its daily life and spiritual practices.

The site is best visited during special heritage events when guided tours are offered to the public. It is wise to check ahead to ensure the grounds are open during your planned visit.

French author Maurice Druon purchased the ruin in 1972 and spent more than three decades restoring it brick by brick. After his death, he chose this location as his final resting place, intertwining his literary legacy with the monastery's revival.
