Abbaye de La Prée, Cistercian abbey in Ségry, France.
Abbaye de La Prée is a former Cistercian monastery located on a 40-hectare estate with an English-style park and open meadows. The main building and supporting structures spread across grounds bordered by the Arnon River.
Bernard of Clairvaux founded the abbey in 1141, and monastic life continued there until 1791. It was sold as national property during the French Revolution.
Architects, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, writers, painters, and sculptors work and create within these walls for extended periods. Their presence shapes how the space functions as a living center for artistic practice.
Visitors can explore the grounds and walk through the meadows and parks on the property. For artists planning extended stays, seven furnished apartments with kitchen, bedroom, living area, and bathroom are available.
The Hôtellerie building provides shelter for isolated elderly people under the care of Petits Frères des Pauvres. This social function exists alongside the artistic residence within the same compound.
