Abbaye du Pin

Abbaye du Pin is a 12th-century Cistercian monastery with buildings containing three reception rooms on the ground floor and sleeping quarters for about 60 guests upstairs. A separate mill building stands near the river as part of the original property.

The abbey was founded in 1120 and later received grain taxation rights throughout the Poitiers region, which strengthened its economic position. These income sources were important for the development and maintenance of the complex.

The building displays Gothic architectural features with pointed arches and stone vaults that reflect medieval craftsmanship and construction techniques. These elements shape the visual character visitors experience when walking through the complex.

The reception pavilion in the park accommodates up to 300 seated people and is suitable for larger events and gatherings. The site remains accessible and open for meetings and celebrations year-round.

The entrance lintel incorporates a reused funeral slab, an example of medieval building practices that repurposed materials. This detail shows how craftspeople made practical use of available stones and resources.
