Ourscamp Abbey

The remaining sections of Ourscamp Abbey display high Gothic windows and stone columns, with a tree-lined path leading to the main structure entrance point.

Founded by Cistercian monks in 1129, the abbey developed into a major religious center housing 500 monks before suffering damage during the Hundred Years War in 1358.

The monks' infirmary contains preserved Gothic elements, including an altar and stone columns that demonstrate medieval French architectural techniques and religious practices.

Located in northern France's Oise department, the abbey grounds remain open for visitors to explore the preserved choir section and eighteenth-century living quarters.

The site features a carved bear sculpture linked to Saint Eloi, who according to local records managed to tame a wild bear that wandered into the abbey grounds.
