Château de Cypierre, château de Saône-et-Loire
The Château de Cypierre is a stone castle in the village of Volesvres with a solid central keep dating to the 12th century. The complex includes a corner tower with a spiral staircase, galleries added in the 17th century, and farm buildings that were expanded and modified over time.
The castle was built roughly 800 years ago and took its name from the Cypierre family, whose members such as Philibert de Marcilly and Jean-François Claude Perrin later held important regional positions. The keep was built in the 12th century for defense, while expansions in the 14th, 17th, and 19th centuries reflected changing needs of residents.
The castle served as a gathering place for local nobility and community events throughout its history. Today, visitors experience this role continuing as the space hosts family celebrations and gatherings that keep the building alive.
The castle sits on a gentle hill and offers walks through the rooms and grounds at your own pace. The setting is rural, so plan time for a leisurely exploration and wear comfortable shoes as the terrain can be uneven.
Each winter, visitors can select Christmas trees grown and prepared on the grounds of the castle. This everyday tradition links the castle's history with a modern festive experience.
