Château de Doumely, Medieval castle in Doumely-Bégny, France
The castle features four teardrop-shaped defensive towers, constructed with a combination of tight-jointed stone and brick mosaic patterns.
Built during the 15th or 16th century on 13th-century foundations, the castle underwent major renovations in the late 17th century with outbuildings added in the 1700s.
During both World Wars, the castle served multiple roles as an advanced command post, field hospital, and prison, with inscriptions still visible on its walls.
The castle received official heritage monument status through a decree issued on December 21, 1984, protecting its facades and roofs for preservation.
The castle's teardrop-shaped towers, developed during the transition between artillery towers and early bastions, represent a rare architectural feature in France.
