Château de Bellocq

The Château de Bellocq features an irregular quadrilateral layout with remaining towers and a crenellated curtain wall supported by corbels on three sides.

Built between 1250 and 1280 by Gaston VII Moncade de Béarn, the fortress protected the territory when Bellocq bordered English-controlled Guyenne.

The castle represents medieval military architecture of the Béarn region and stands as evidence of territorial conflicts between France, England, and Navarre.

Located at 4 Rue du Château in Bellocq, the castle remains in private ownership and requires advance arrangements for visits to explore the grounds.

The castle entrance opens into a square tower with a vaulted lower level, while a secondary entrance called poterne leads to another square tower.
