La Montagne des singes, Primate park in Kintzheim, France.
La Montagne des singes is a wildlife sanctuary spanning 24 hectares of forest at the base of the Vosges mountains, where around 200 Barbary macaques roam freely. The animals move openly through the terrain and visitors can watch them along natural pathways.
The site was created to protect and study endangered Barbary macaques. Since then, it has become an important center dedicated to the conservation of this rare primate species.
The feeding areas show how macaques live together in groups and interact with one another. Visitors can observe their daily social behavior as the animals gather around for food.
The best time to visit is early morning when the macaques are most active and curious. Wear slip-resistant shoes, as the forest paths can be muddy, especially after rain.
Visitors receive a handful of popcorn upon entry to feed the macaques, creating direct interactions with the animals. This close encounter produces memorable moments, especially when the macaques seek out children.
