The museum exhibits extensive collections of zoology, wildlife, and mineralogy across multiple galleries, including a gallery dedicated to Earth and Universe sciences.

Founded in 1810 and relocated in 1875, the museum occupies a building designed by architect Gustave Bourgerel near the former Hôtel des Monnaies.

The zoology gallery presents 1000 specimens arranged according to the Phylogenetic tree, with a dedicated mezzanine displaying 700 ornithological specimens.

The museum opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00 except Tuesdays, with admission at 5 euros for adults and free entry for visitors under 18.

The museum houses a Martian meteorite known as Black Beauty and preserves specimens of extinct birds including the Passenger pigeon and Great auk.
