Château des Bories

Château des Bories is a medieval castle in Antonne-et-Trigonant featuring a rectangular main building with two rounded corner towers and a central square tower housing a grand internal staircase. The structure developed over more than a century with construction phases spanning the late 15th through early 17th centuries.

Construction began in the late 15th century and continued through the early 17th century with successive building phases. The castle survived planned destruction during the French Revolution, retaining its main structure while losing courtyard walls and having its surrounding moats filled.

The architectural design of Château des Bories established new standards for grand staircases that influenced French castle construction throughout the 17th century.

The castle preserves its original defensive structures including machicolated towers, remains of a former drawbridge entrance, and a dry moat around the perimeter. Plan your visit to allow time for exploring the various towers and the interior staircase areas.

A southeastern bartizan provides strategic viewing points across the surrounding landscape. A separate spiral staircase tower offers direct access to the castle's rooftop areas without passing through main interior spaces.
