Andone Castrum, Medieval fortification in Villejoubert, France.

The stone fortification includes a 2-meter-wide wall rising 4 meters above foundations, with two gates providing access from east and west points.

Built during the late 10th century by the counts of Angoulême, the castrum served as a residence until its abandonment between 1020 and 1028.

Archaeological excavations revealed chess pieces, tools, weapons, and metal objects that indicate the presence of an aristocratic medieval society.

The archaeological site extends across 1,200 square meters, containing seven stone buildings and two courts arranged within an irregular oval wall.

Animal remains found at the site show that 80 percent of the consumed meat came from pigs, with limited hunting of deer and birds.
