Buttes de Rosne

The Buttes de Rosne is a protected natural zone in the Vexin region that extends over approximately 4 kilometers and reaches an elevation of 214 meters. The area encompasses diverse habitats with varied plant and animal species within a unified ecological system.

The formation took shape around 30 million years ago during the Stampian period, when the area was still covered by sea. This marine past left behind the distinctive geological layers visible in the landscape today.

The hill spans multiple municipalities including Haravilliers, Le Heaulme, and Neuilly-en-Vexin, forming a central feature of the local landscape.

Multiple walking trails wind through the protected zone, allowing visitors to explore the landscape at their own pace. The paths are well accessible and suitable for different skill levels.

This elevation stands as the highest point in the Île-de-France region, offering a strategic vantage point over the surrounding landscape. The meulière clay layers are distinctive and give the hill its characteristic appearance.
