Chapelle de Walcourt, Religious chapel in Givet, France
The Walcourt Chapel features a square exterior structure with a circular interior room and blue stone walls from Givet quarries.
Built in 1602, the chapel underwent reconstruction in 1781 by Toupet des Vignes and received a blessing ceremony in September 1784.
The chapel served multiple religious purposes, changing from Catholic to Orthodox worship during Russian occupation and Protestant services during German presence.
Located on Route de Philippeville in Givet, the chapel exterior remains visible to visitors throughout the year.
The structure accommodated up to 9000 pilgrims who gathered there instead of traveling to distant Walcourt in Belgium.
