Château d'Arc-en-Barrois

Château d'Arc-en-Barrois is a neoclassical manor with symmetrical facades, large windows, and cream-colored stone walls throughout. The interior features a central grand staircase and several formal reception rooms arranged around the main floor.

An earlier château on this site was destroyed during the French Revolution in 1793. The present building was constructed in 1845 under the patronage of Princess Adelaide of Orleans.

The interior rooms display protected wooden wall panels and ornately decorated fireplaces that speak to aristocratic taste. Paintings by Durand-Brager depicting historical naval scenes adorn the walls and add historical depth to the spaces.

The estate now operates as a hotel requiring advance booking for overnight stays or guided tours of the historical rooms. Visitors should contact ahead to check availability and arrange their visit accordingly.

During World War I, the building served as an emergency hospital for wounded soldiers from the French 3rd Army Corps. This medical role shows how such private estates were converted to serve the nation during times of crisis.
