Château d'Arfeuille, Historic castle in Felletin, France.
Château d'Arfeuille stands as a fortified medieval castle featuring thick stone walls, defensive towers, and a central keep that exemplifies 15th-century military architecture in the Limousin region.
Originally built in the 15th century on the site of a 12th-century fortress, the castle has been continuously owned by the Mourins d'Arfeuille family for over 700 years since its construction.
The castle holds special significance as four cardinals from the d'Arfeuille family lived during the 14th century under the Avignon Papacy, marking its importance in French ecclesiastical history.
The castle opens to visitors during July and August, as well as during Heritage Days, offering guided tours that explore its medieval architecture and family history.
The d'Arfeuille family received the rare privilege of adding a fleur-de-lis to their coat of arms in 1304 after Jean Mourins d'Arfeuille saved King Philip the Fair's life at the Battle of Mons-en-Puelle.
