Château d'Arlay

Château d'Arlay is a stone building with a U-shaped base and a central balcony overlooking the village below and the Revermont mountains beyond. The structure displays the architectural style typical of late 18th-century French castle construction.

The current building was constructed in 1774 by architect Rémy Léger, replacing an earlier structure from 1650 while incorporating its cellar and foundation into the new design. This blend of old and new elements shaped the castle's layout.

The rooms inside show how French nobility lived during the 1800s, with furnishings and decorations that display wealth and taste. You can walk through these spaces and understand the daily life of the aristocratic families who called this place home.

The castle is open to visitors from May through October with guided tours available in multiple languages. Plan to spend time exploring both the interior rooms and the surrounding gardens on the grounds.

The property includes an 8-hectare park with a horseshoe-shaped fountain that connects the courtyard to a Romantic-style garden. This garden was designed at the same time as the castle and showcases a mix of formal and naturalistic planting styles.
