Château de Chilly-Mazarin

Château de Chilly-Mazarin is a 17th century building with neoclassical design features, accessed by a three-arch bridge that spans the surrounding moats. The main structure is built from cut stone and rises four stories high with balanced proportions throughout.

The original fortress was built in the 13th century by the Counts of Dreux and later transformed completely. Between 1627 and 1632, major renovations under Antoine Coëffier de Ruzé d'Effiat gave it the neoclassical form it still displays today.

The castle takes its name from the Mazarin family, who shaped it over generations and held great influence in the community. The park layout reflects the design ideas of its time, and visitors can experience how the building and land work together as one.

The castle is located on Rue du Lion and now serves as the town hall with a public park that visitors can enjoy. The grounds are open during specific periods throughout the year, so checking ahead about visiting times is worth doing before your trip.

The estate preserves a historic water system featuring an observation pavilion dating from the era of Louis XIV that many visitors miss. This structure shows how water management was engineered during the baroque period and remains an overlooked technical achievement.
