Château de Châteaugiron

Château de Châteaugiron is a medieval fortress with four standing towers, including a 38-meter-high keep and a Clock Tower, linked by defensive walls. Gardens surround the entire structure, completing the ensemble.

The fortress was built in the 12th century and remodeled in the 15th century by Jean de Derval. It gradually transformed from a military stronghold into a residential estate during the 18th century.

The castle houses the Gourdel Museum, dedicated to the work of local sculptors Julien and Pierre Gourdel. This collection reveals how these artists shaped the region's creative traditions.

Access to the property is only possible through guided tours, which involve climbing about 100 steps to reach Henriette, the bell in the Clock Tower. Wearing comfortable shoes is advisable for this visit.

The castle chapel retains its 12th-century Romanesque choir with rounded windows and recently restored medieval wall paintings. These paintings were rediscovered during restoration work in 2007.
