Château de Coat-an-Noz

Château de Coat-an-Noz is a castle with a rectangular shape and four corner towers built from local granite and slate, situated within a forest near the Leguer River. The building spans multiple levels and connects its lower and upper sections through numerous internal stairways.

The castle was built between 1880 and 1884 by Countess de Sesmaisons as a late 19th-century structure. Sir Robert Mond acquired it in 1929 and became its later owner.

The castle shows typical Breton building style with granite walls and slate roofing that define the region's character. You can notice how local materials and craftsmanship shape the structure.

Access to the different sections of the castle involves climbing many stairs, so be prepared to explore multiple levels. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and pay attention to the pathways through the wooded grounds.

Lady Mond had a replica built in 1923 because the original location sat too close to the road. She later ordered it dismantled and reconstructed at a better distance from traffic.
