Château de Dieulouard, Medieval castle in Dieulouard, France

The castle complex consists of seven circular towers and a fortified gate within a polygonal enclosure atop a strategic hilltop position.

Built around 997 by Bishop Adalbert II of Metz, the fortress replaced an ancient Roman settlement called Scarpone at this strategic location.

The castle museum displays Gallo-Roman artifacts from Scarpone and Renaissance glassware that represent the regional craftsmanship through centuries.

Visitors can access the castle grounds throughout the year and explore informative panels detailing the structure's architectural evolution and military history.

The castle's name originates from the Lorraine dialect 'Deus lou wart,' meaning 'God protect it,' reflecting medieval religious influence.
