Château de Ferrette

The castle consists of an upper section with a residential tower carved into limestone and a lower section featuring defensive half towers equipped with cannons.

Built in 1100, the castle belonged to the Counts of Ferrette until 1324 when it passed to the House of Austria through the marriage of Jeanne de Ferrette.

The castle connects to a cave that, according to regional tales, housed dwarfs who maintained positive relations with local inhabitants until social tensions emerged.

Visitors can access the castle through a marked trail from the parking area at Rue du Château, with the walk taking approximately ten minutes.

The residential tower, carved directly into the natural limestone formation, represents one of the earliest examples of this architectural technique in Alsace.
