Château de Fleurigny

Château de Fleurigny is a castle in Thorigny-sur-Oreuse built on an island and surrounded by water, with a large pond bordering the inner courtyard and stone walls of sandstone construction. The water defenses and fortified walls create a distinctive silhouette that dominates the landscape.

This fortress was first recorded in the mid-13th century under the ownership of Érard de Brienne, then passed to the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem. The order's acquisition shaped its character for centuries afterward.

The main building holds a room with a grand fireplace and a cabinet containing 17th-century paintings that depict everyday life within the castle and across its lands. These spaces show how people who lived here experienced their world.

Group visits for 15 to 40 people require advance reservations, while individual visits are possible on specific occasions during the year. Checking opening dates ahead of time helps you plan a visit that suits your schedule.

The castle grounds include a circular vegetable garden and a former seigniorial farm that now operates as an equestrian center. These outbuildings reveal how extensive the historical economy surrounding the fortress once was.
