Castle of Fleury-en-Bière

Castle of Fleury-en-Bière is a Renaissance structure with symmetrical wings framing a central courtyard and extensive gardens laid out according to French principles of that era. The building combines the balanced proportions typical of the period with comfortable living spaces arranged across multiple floors.

A nobleman named Côme Clausse commissioned construction around 1550, with architect Gilles le Breton implementing this vision through the late 16th century. In the 18th century, architect Jean-Baptiste Chaussard carried out significant modifications that modernized the building's appearance.

The interior spaces reflect the evolution of French nobility residences from defensive structures to refined living quarters through multiple centuries.

Visiting is limited to specific dates, and you should register in advance to secure a spot. Tours run at set times, so it is wise to check opening days before making your trip.

The castle retains its original moat system, which reflects the defensive function from earlier times. This preserved defensive feature is unusual for a building that later served mainly as an aristocratic residence.
