Château de Fressac is a castle on Castellas hill with walls that have retained their full height. The complex includes a keep divided into three distinct levels.
The castle was built in the early 13th century and later served as a shelter during the Camisard Wars in the 18th century. It became municipal property in 1992.
The entrance displays expertly shaped stones with a solid lintel topped by a rounded arch. These details reveal how medieval craftspeople built such structures.
The walk from the parking area near the cemetery at the hill's base takes about twenty minutes on a steep path. Sturdy shoes are recommended for this demanding climb.
The walkway atop the walls features an intact parapet with firing embrasures. These elements demonstrate the military defensive design of the structure.
