Château de Fressac, Medieval castle in Fressac, France

The castle stands on Castellas hill with preserved walls reaching their full height and contains a keep spread across three distinct levels.

Built in the early 13th century, this fortress served as a shelter during the Camisard Wars in the 18th century and became municipal property in 1992.

The main entrance features expertly carved ashlar stones with a monolithic tympanum crowned by a semicircular arch reflecting medieval architectural techniques.

Visitors must undertake a twenty-minute uphill walk on a steep path from the parking area near the cemetery at the base of the hill.

The walkway atop the walls retains an intact parapet with firing embrasures, demonstrating the military function of this defensive structure.
