Château de Saint Aubin, Medieval castle in Saint-Aubin-sur-Loire, France.

Château de Saint Aubin is a castle from the 18th century featuring a rectangular main building flanked by two wings that enclose a courtyard. Its golden stone walls support slate roofs and display three symmetrical central projections decorated with Ionic pilasters.

Construction of the present castle began in 1771 under architect Edme Verniquet and replaced an earlier fortress partly demolished in 1860. The building reflects the shift from medieval military design to classical elegance during the Age of Enlightenment.

The facades display three-bay central projections with Ionic pilasters, demonstrating the classical architectural style of 18th century French nobility.

A visit works best when planning time for the outdoor areas, as the terraces and pathways to the Loire Valley are particularly enjoyable in daylight hours. Wear sturdy shoes to navigate the paved walks and courtyard safely.

The terraced gardens are separated by balustrades and connected by paved pathways that lead directly to the Loire River. This layout creates a gradual transition from the castle's formal architecture into the surrounding river landscape.
