Château de La Celle-les-Bordes

Château de La Celle-les-Bordes, Protected historic castle in La Celle-les-Bordes, France.

The Château de La Celle-les-Bordes features a central body with vaulted cellars built from Etampes sandstone and local brick, topped with slate and tile roofing. The construction materials create a distinctive appearance that reflects the regional building traditions of the period.

Built around 1610 for Claude de Harville, the castle passed through various owners over the centuries until the Duke of Uzès acquired it in 1870 and converted it into a hunting estate. This transformation marked a significant change in the building's purpose and use.

The interior displays period furnishings and decorations from the Louis XIII era, including tapestries, ceramics, and bronzes that reflect the tastes of its successive owners. These collections show how the castle served as a setting for displaying refined objects and artworks.

Access is located on Rue de l'Église and the castle is open to visitors through guided tours with a minimum group size of 20 people. Advance booking is essential to arrange a visit.

The castle houses a remarkable collection of approximately 2400 deer antlers, ranking among the largest assemblages of its kind in France. This unusual collection developed during the period when the estate functioned as a hunting lodge.
