Château de La Grange-aux-Ormes

Château de La Grange-aux-Ormes, Historical castle in Marly, France

Château de La Grange-aux-Ormes is an 18th-century castle situated at the end of a long driveway on the Frescaty plateau, with the Seille River flowing around its grounds. Today, the property shares space with a modern 27-hole golf course spread across roughly 100 hectares of wooded and rolling landscape.

The original structure dates to 1187, when religious orders of Notre-Dame-des-Champs and Saint-Symphorien of Metz established the property. Over subsequent centuries, the castle changed hands among various noble families who developed it further.

The chapel within the grounds dates back to the 18th century and once served the spiritual needs of residents and workers. Visitors can still observe this quiet space, which reflects the religious past of the property.

The grounds are accessible today primarily for golf enthusiasts who wish to play on the course, which offers different difficulty levels for various skill levels. The best time to visit depends on weather conditions, though the landscape remains attractive year-round, with early autumn providing pleasant conditions for play and walking.

Before its transformation into a golf facility, the estate functioned as a working farm from the mid-1800s until 1963, growing potatoes and wheat while raising livestock. This rural purpose vanished entirely when the grounds were converted into a modern sports complex in 1991.
