Château de Laye

Château de Laye is a castle with a square footprint and decorated pediments located in Saint-Georges-de-Reneins. The building features a grand double-revolution stone staircase as its entrance and incorporates vaulted rooms from an earlier fortification.

The Épinay family commissioned the castle around 1760, integrating parts of a medieval fortress into the new construction. This combination of earlier structures and new design demonstrates how 18th-century architecture built upon existing foundations.

The gilded reception rooms and dining halls showcase the refined decorative details typical of French nobility residences from the 1700s. Visitors can observe how these spaces reflected the wealth and status of the family who lived here.

The grounds comprise a private estate with several areas to explore, including gardens and landscaped features spread across the land. Comfortable shoes are recommended as there is considerable walking involved and the property is spread over a large area.

A chapel on the estate grounds was built with distinctive golden ochre stone from the Beaujolais region. The roof is supported by twelve sturdy buttresses that give the structure a distinctive architectural presence.
