Château de Maillot, Cultural heritage castle in Levier, France

The Château de Maillot, constructed according to architect Parent's plans in 1857, exhibits classical architecture typical of the 19th century.

The original site contained a fortress dating from the 13th century, first mentioned in 1265 under the name Chastel Maillet.

Between 1922 and 1932, Senator René de Moustier completely rebuilt the castle, drawing inspiration from the Luxembourg Palace architecture.

The castle estate holds a strategic position near the former Roman road connecting Besançon to Pontarlier, five kilometers from Levier center.

In 1944, the woods surrounding the castle served as a parachuting zone for the French Resistance during World War II.
