Château de Malesherbes, Medieval castle in Malesherbes, France.

Château de Malesherbes is a fortified castle with medieval origins featuring three remaining defensive towers with hoarding structures and classical architectural details from 18th-century renovation work. The grounds include the main structure, a chapel, farm buildings, and an extensive park.

A royal finance official acquired the original stronghold in 1398, but the castle later faced dramatic change when its 18th-century owner served as defense counsel for the French king at trial during the Revolution. Significant reconstruction work took place throughout that century.

The estate was home to the Lamoignon family, influential figures in French society for generations whose legacy remains visible in how the buildings and grounds are arranged.

The castle now operates primarily as an event venue, so the exterior and grounds can be viewed from outside depending on what is happening there. Before visiting, check what parts are accessible since portions may be reserved for private functions.

The park surrounding the estate holds a collection of native and exotic trees arranged according to French garden design principles from the 1700s. This deliberately chosen selection reflects the botanical interests of past residents.
