Château de Malicorne-sur-Sarthe, Neoclassical castle in Malicorne-sur-Sarthe, France.
Château de Malicorne-sur-Sarthe is a fortified residence in the town of Malicorne-sur-Sarthe in western France with neoclassical design. The structure displays symmetrical facades, distinctive Mansard roofs, and sits surrounded by gardens and water features.
The original fortification was built in the 12th century as a stronghold to protect Maine's borders. In the 18th century it was completely rebuilt with the neoclassical design that stands today.
The residence became a meeting place for local nobility during the 1600s, who gathered here to spend time together in its refined rooms. Such estates reflected the social importance these homes held for the regional upper class during that era.
The building is normally open for guided tours from July through August, with entry fees starting at 6 euros. Children under 18 get free admission on Heritage Days.
The entrance area and ground floor rooms were formally protected as a historical monument in 1989, along with the front gate and surrounding park. This designation ensured the preservation of this regionally important structure.
