Château de Mareuil

Château de Mareuil is a triangular-shaped castle with two round towers framing the entrance and opening into an inner courtyard. The courtyard centers on a square keep containing a grand staircase that rises through multiple levels.

The castle was rebuilt in the late 15th century on older foundations and served as one of four major fortresses in the region. Along with three neighboring strongholds, it formed a network of power centers that once dominated the area.

The castle contains a room from the Napoleonic era displaying furniture and documents related to a prominent French military figure who made this place his home. The furnishings reveal how the nobility lived during that period.

The interior features handcrafted wooden wall paneling and fireplaces from the 17th century that display the craftsmanship of the era. Water-filled moats encircle the entire structure, creating a striking defensive line that defines the castle's outer boundary.
