Château de Marnay, Medieval castle in Marnay, France.

The Château de Marnay stands on a natural elevation with sixteen turrets surrounding the main structure and cut stone walls throughout the complex.

The castle construction began in the 13th century to monitor the route between Besançon and Langres, with major reconstructions in 1520 and early 17th century.

King Louis XIV stayed at this castle in 1674 and ordered the dismantling of its defenses to prevent any resistance from the Franche-Comté region.

Visitors can view the facades and certain parts of the castle from Place Jean de Joinville in the center of Marnay.

The castle preserves architectural elements from multiple periods, including medieval fireplaces and Renaissance ceilings.
