Château de Matha, Renaissance castle in Matha, France

The castle features two connected square pavilions with rounded pediment windows and a gallery of crenellations supported by stone consoles.

Built in 866 by Count Vulgrin of Angouleme for defense against Norman raids, the castle underwent reconstruction during the 16th century.

The Renaissance pavilion, constructed between 1582 and 1587 under Jacquette de Montberon, represents architectural changes from military fortress to residential palace.

Located at 8 Boulevard Bossais in Matha, the castle received heritage protection status through French law orders in 1948 and 1952.

The structure includes a three-story square tower with a porch, crowned by crenellations and covered with high slate roofs.
