Château d'Estresse

Château d'Estresse is a medieval castle in Astaillac built with a rectangular floor plan, two square towers, and a central residential section. A medieval wall running approximately 200 meters supports and encloses the structure.

The site developed during the medieval period and served as a defensive post against Norman threats along the Dordogne region. Later, it became the residence of the Roquet family, who left their mark on its evolution.

The Roquet family, prosperous residents from Beaulieu, shaped life at the site for generations and played a role in governing the nearby settlement. Their presence is reflected in the building's design and local memory.

The location is fairly remote and requires planning ahead to visit, as it is not easily accessible by chance while passing through the area. Contact the local tourism office in advance to clarify access options and visiting arrangements.

The defensive structure features a bretèche resting on seven corbels and contains four small cannon ports positioned above the main facade openings. These unusual elements show how the building adapted to changing military techniques over time.
