Kinépolis Lomme, 15th century castle in Lomme, France
The Isenghien is a 15th century castle in Lomme that now operates as part of the Kinépolis cinema complex, one of France's largest movie theaters with multiple screening rooms. The castle's original stone walls and architectural structure remain visible within the modern facility.
The castle was built in 1545 on the manor lands of Marie de Cuinghien and served as a strategic fortress for the family. In 1646, Marshal Jean de Gassion conquered it and brought it under the control of Louis XIV.
The castle now houses the Regional Center for Circus Arts, where local performers train and rehearse regularly. This transformation shows how historical spaces adapt to serve contemporary artistic communities.
The castle can be easily explored as part of the larger Kinépolis complex, which includes cinemas, restaurants, and shops throughout the site. Expect it to be busy, especially on weekends and evenings when screenings are happening.
Etienne Poulet, a famous aviation pioneer, was born within the castle walls and later set multiple flight records. His connection to this place links it to early French aviation history.
