Château d'Orrouy

Château d'Orrouy is a castle in Orrouy, France, positioned at the top of the Automne valley and displaying Gothic Renaissance features in its towers and defensive structures. The complex combines original medieval elements with a neo-Gothic tower that was added later.

The castle was built in the 15th century and underwent several transformations over the centuries. A significant expansion with a neo-Gothic tower took place in the 19th century.

The castle was transformed into an art center during the 19th century, bringing together works by painters such as Corot, Manet, Cézanne, and Pissarro. This collection reflects the artistic tastes of that era and connects the place to European art movements of the period.

Visitors can reach the castle year-round, but access is only available through guided tours that require advance booking. It is helpful to plan ahead and allow time for the tour.

From 1916 to 1918, the castle housed the first French tank training command under General Estienne. This brief period connected the place to military innovation and the development of armored warfare in France.
