Château de Pupetières

The Château de Pupetières is a castle with stone walls and Gothic Revival architecture, its roof distinguished by more than 45 different types of tiles. The building dominates the village of Châbons with its distinctive form and many architectural details.

The castle was originally founded in 1222 by the Virieu family and suffered damage during the French Revolution. After this difficult period, it was rebuilt between 1861 and 1866 by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in its present form.

Inside, tapestries from the Beauvais Royal Manufactory decorate the rooms, showing how fine craftsmanship shaped life in this castle. The estate regularly hosts the Festival Berlioz, connecting music with the place.

The castle offers guided tours for visitors and hosts events like weddings. It is located near Châbons in an accessible area, making visits relatively straightforward.

The estate features gardens with a waterfall, offering visitors a peaceful space to explore. Each year, a Plant Day is held here where exhibitors showcase their plant collections and horticultural work.
