Château de Rambuteau, Castle in Ozolles, France.
Château de Rambuteau is a castle in Ozolles featuring tall slate roofs with domed lanterns and 19th-century architecture in neo-Louis XVI style. The estate includes a restored chapel, landscaped water features, and outbuildings that frame the main residence.
The castle was built in 1824 by Count Philibert de Rambuteau and incorporates older elements dating back to the 16th century. A surviving tower and original chapel reflect this layered construction history.
Count Amalric de Rambuteau, the last resident, was captured by German forces in 1944 and died at Buchenwald concentration camp.
The castle remains private property with limited public access and the interiors are not open to visitors. The grounds and chapel can be viewed from outside, giving a sense of the overall estate layout and architecture.
The estate features an ice house that extends several meters underground and once preserved food before modern refrigeration existed. This hidden structure demonstrates practical engineering solutions from a previous era.
