Château des Ormes

Château des Ormes is a castle from the 1700s built with a long main front, central buildings rising three levels, and decorated stone details and roof windows throughout. The complex includes several structures that were added and changed as the family's needs grew.

A noble family took over the property in the early 1700s and built it into a large residence with major additions and improvements. The site continued to grow and change as each generation made their own modifications.

The place once welcomed great minds of the Enlightenment who discussed philosophy and ideas within its walls. The rooms still show how an educated family displayed their love of learning and the arts.

The castle opens to visitors only during special days in late summer when heritage sites welcome the public. It is worth checking the exact dates before planning a visit and preparing for typical outdoor and indoor touring conditions.

The grounds contain a well-kept ice storage building from the early 1800s that shows how people kept food cool before modern refrigeration. An old wooden boat was found buried on the property in the early 2000s, suggesting the family once enjoyed water activities.
