Château des Tours, Medieval fortress in Montagne, France.
Château des Tours is a medieval castle in Montagne featuring three towers: a polygonal keep and two circular towers connected by rectangular buildings along the southern side. The property now operates as a wine estate under the Montagne Saint-Emilion appellation.
Construction of the castle began in the 14th century as a medieval stronghold in the region. In 1602, Leon I de Calvimont acquired the barony of Montagne from King Henri IV, establishing it as a seat of power.
The castle shows a mix of medieval fortress design and Renaissance residential style, with Italian-influenced arcades in the courtyard that you can still see today.
The castle is privately owned and not open to public visits, though you can view it from outside the estate. The best perspective comes from the surrounding grounds or nearby public areas.
A chapel located outside the castle walls contains a vault that may date back to the 12th century. This separate religious building reveals a longer history than the castle itself.
