Château du Marais, French castle in Le Val-Saint-Germain, France
The Château du Marais features a symmetrical facade with five central bays and single-bay lateral sections, crowned by a Doric column portico.
Built between 1772 and 1779 by architect Jean-Benoît-Vincent Barré for Jean Le Maître de La Martinière, the castle replaced an earlier structure from the 13th century.
The castle served as a literary salon at the end of the 18th century, hosting notable writers including poet Florian and author Chateaubriand.
The estate remains closed to visitors since March 2022 due to ownership changes and planned renovations for conversion into a luxury hotel.
In 1902, Count Boniface de Castellane organized an extravagant reception at the castle to honor King Carlos I of Portugal.
