Commanderie de Moisy-le-Temple, Medieval commandry in Montigny-l'Allier, France

Commanderie de Moisy-le-Temple is a medieval commandry built around a Gothic chapel, a Renaissance mansion with rounded towers, and supporting buildings arranged across the property. The main reception hall features exposed wooden beaming and connects to both the inner courtyard and the surrounding garden areas.

Founded around 1150 by the Knights Templar, this commandry expanded over time by acquiring neighboring lands. The property grew to encompass multiple estates, reflecting the institution's increasing wealth and influence in the region.

The chapel honors Saint Christopher and displays early Gothic details with ribbed vaults and floral patterns painted in red on its walls. These decorative elements reflect the skilled craftsmanship typical of medieval religious buildings.

The property is easily explored on foot since buildings are arranged around the central courtyard, creating a natural walking route through the site. Visitors can move freely between the chapel, mansion, and gardens to see how the different structures relate to one another.

The chapel had an unusual past, once serving as a stable before undergoing careful restoration and rededication. This conversion back to its religious purpose in 2022 marks a dramatic reversal in the building's function and importance.
