Château de Balleure has a rectangular plan flanked by circular towers. To the east stands a rectangular residential block; to the north a gatehouse tower, a large square tower and a smaller square tower; to the west a tall residential wing with a stair turret. The walls are pale beige stone and the roofs grey slate.

In 1340, Henri de Sauvement received authorization from the Duke of Burgundy to fortify the residential property with defensive walls and a surrounding moat. This construction initiated the castle's development as a fortified stronghold.

The castle is private and closed to visitors, but since 2017 its owners have run Château de Balleure SAS, offering rental accommodation and a table d'hôtes on site. The building was listed on the supplementary inventory of monuments historiques in December 1941.
