Château de Beaufief, French castle in Mazeray, France.

Château de Beaufief is a castle in Mazeray with a central pavilion topped by a triangular pediment and two curved wings that extend across the grounds. The property includes a French-style garden and English park surrounding the main building.

The castle was built in 1768 by Pierre Augustin Perrodeau, a royal secretary, and reused foundations from an earlier building on the same site. This reuse of older foundations shows how builders of that time integrated existing structures into new constructions.

The chapel in one wing shows complete decorations from the 18th century, including plaster ornaments that reflect the French architectural style of that era. These details remain visible and give visitors a sense of how wealthy families decorated their homes.

Visitors should contact the local administration in advance to arrange a visit, as the castle is not open at all times. Tours allow access to all areas, including the gardens and underground sections.

The underground level contains irregular vaults from the 13th century that once served as passages connecting local churches and other buildings. These hidden tunnels offer insight into medieval ways of linking structures beneath the ground.
