Château de Bois-Boudran

Château de Bois-Boudran, 18th century château in Fontenailles, France.

The Château de Bois-Boudran features a classical main building on the north side and an Empire-style wing on the south. The complex reflects architectural development across two distinct periods.

The estate was purchased by Count Jean-Henri-Louis Greffulhe in the early 19th century, who transformed it into a major hunting domain. Under his direction, the property underwent significant restructuring.

The place served as a gathering spot for noble families and intellectuals who held social events here over generations. This tradition shaped it as a center of local society and conversation.

The grounds now function as part of a golf course while preserving hunting activities across much of the former estate. Visitors should know that certain areas are dedicated to golfing.

A monumental wing designed by architect Ernest Sanson contains a theater, reception hall, and dining room. These rooms were decorated in classical style by Georges Hoentschel.
