Château de la Cassine

Château de la Cassine is a castle ruin in Vendresse featuring substantial stone walls and surviving architectural fragments. The remaining structure displays the layout of former rooms and defensive elements across the site.

Louis IV of Nevers built the castle in 1571 as a fortified residence in the region. The structure suffered severe fire damage in 1927 that changed its appearance.

The castle grounds transform into an outdoor performance venue during summer months, presenting sound and light shows about regional history.

The site can be explored on foot, allowing visitors to view the ruins from multiple angles. Visiting during daylight hours and clear weather provides the best view of the stone structures.

The ruins were left unrestored after the 1927 fire, preserving original 16th-century construction methods that are visible today. This offers rare glimpses into the craftsmanship and building practices of that era.
